Okay Friday evening hubby and I sat down with our paychecks and his DJ money and worked out our first Dave Ramsey weekly budget allotment. Both of our checks ended up being more than we had estimated...to the tune of almost $200.00 so that was wonderful and enabled us to put 2 nice payments on some outstanding credit card debt and also pay for our Mortgage Life Insurance that came due *I had completely forgotten about it*.
I went to the bank yesterday and deposited the amount for the bills that we would be writing checks for and the rest I got in cash that would go in each of our envelopes. We set aside $125.00/week for groceries and for the first time I actually sat down and read through 5 store ads and matched up my coupons with the items listed to maxminize our savings potential. Off to Wal-mart we headed -- I know that normally Wal-Mart is cheaper but with 3 of my local stores offering double coupons I wanted to comparison shop all the items. It did end up being that my local stores were cheaper on the advertised items with my double coupons. But I did get some good deals of fresh fruits and veggies at Wal-Mart along with a few other things.
All totaled my savings via coupons and special store card savings added up to a total of $39.81 cents. I got a nice stock of meat & chicken in the freezer so I am sure that next week I won't have to purchase much if any meat. Out of our $125.00 grocery envelope we have $11.73 for the remainder of the week. That will be good if I need to stop for milk or something small.
This afternoon while the boys were out and about and Girlie Girlie was sleeping I sat down and wrote out the corresponding checks and I can't tell you what a great experience it was to know what I was going to pay and had the money to pay them. It gave me such great peace. We are still a great deal away from our debt free goal but I feel like if we take it one small step at a time we will make it.

Thanks for the review on Mom Blogs! I've been going through yours and I really like it so far. :)
As for Wal-Mart, I no longer shop there. I find that I spend considerably less using double coupons combined with sales at non Wal-Mart stores. For a great E-book on how to save tons of money combining coupons/sales, you might consider reading Crystal Paine's Secrets to Supermarket Savings. She also has some general frugality books that I like. You can find them here. They often go on sale, so it may be worth the wait...Here's the link.

Not to sound corny, but I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! You've accomplished the hardest part of all on the Dave Ramsey plan-- GETTING STARTED!
We've got our BEF of $1000 set up, and are using cash enevelopes now.
It's a great feeling knowing your bills are paid, you have cash for anything that comes up, and doesn't it just seem like you have more money??
Theres a really good website to sign up for -- a forum for Dave Ramsey followers...

YAY!
Way to be strong!
Sounds like your on the right path!
good for you!
Wow! You are doing so great at this. You are definitely going down the right path. Keep the great job going. The feeling of peace is just so awesome.
That's awesome! I love using coupons. I get a little thrill out of the store clerk telling me, all awed, "You saved $100!" I've managed to get our grocery budget down to $280 a month (2 adults and 2 eight year olds) by careful shopping and coupon use.
You're doing great!!!! :)
That sounds awesome. I want to write about my financial adventures, now too. Where can I buy some time and energy to do that?
Good for you!! Thanks for the inspiration. Now if I could get Angelo on board...
Hi. I write a rather popular personal finance blog (10-15K page views a day) and last night I got so engrossed in your story of overcoming debt that I wrote a rather long essay about you and your blog. I hope you'll read it:
